Bāmiyān Cave H
Cave H is located between the two Giant Buddhas. As Cave E, it is also completely open to the valley, and contains a seated Buddha figure with wall paintings surrounding it. The painted composition is divided into five parts around the vertical axis of the sculpted Buddha. The central panel shows a single deity in Bodhisattva garments and jewels, similar to those in Cave E and K. The second panel consists of six Buddhas in padmasana and executing different mudras. The third panel shows three Buddhas, each sitting under a tree. Beneath the mandorlas are stupas and stylized lotuses. The fourth panel consists of two medallions containing two persons each. The painted figures in the fifth panel are faded and hardly discernible. (Klimburg-Salter 1989, pp. 164-165)
